aBOUT ME
I’m Anika Knight, an instructional designer and higher education professional who cares deeply about helping students access, navigate, and truly learn from the courses and programs we create. I design learning experiences that are clear, supportive, and grounded in both real student needs and the data that helps us understand them. I’m warm and empathetic by nature, but I bring structure, purpose, and evidence to everything I build.
My work lives at the intersection of accessibility, student support, and thoughtful course design. I believe students shouldn’t have to work harder just to access the materials that are supposed to help them succeed—and that meaningful learning only happens when we design with that reality in mind.
wHAT gUIDES mY WORK
Accessibility and equity shape every decision I make, from the way I structure a Canvas module to the way I approach program and curriculum planning. I design with the goal of reducing barriers, building belonging, and helping diverse learners feel confident in their path forward. I rely on data and evaluation—not just instinct—to understand what’s helping students persist and where we need to make meaningful changes.
I’m especially committed to addressing retention challenges in higher education, particularly in STEM. Over the years, I’ve seen how small, intentional decisions in course design, mentorship, and student support can create big differences in students’ ability to thrive. That belief drives me to create learning experiences that feel honest, accessible, and truly aligned with what students need.
PROFESSIONAL bACKGROUND
I’ve spent much of my career supporting students in higher education and STEM pathways through program management, research preparation, career skill-building, and individualized student support. I’ve coordinated REU programs, led undergraduate research and professional development initiatives, and supported faculty in redesigning courses and learning environments.
As an instructional designer, I build courses and digital learning materials in Canvas, WordPress, and Rise 360 that prioritize clarity, intuitive navigation, and a welcoming learning flow. I’ve also worked in student-facing roles that taught me how differently students learn—and how critical it is to design with flexibility and representation in mind.
I continue to expand my learning design practice through my M.Ed. in Training & Development (Instructional Systems Design), consulting projects, and collaborations with faculty and organizations dedicated to improving access and outcomes.
a BIT MORE ABOUT ME
Outside of work, I foster dogs and love the small, joyful chaos they bring into my life. I enjoy designing thoughtful spaces—whether in a course, a program, or my own home—and I find a lot of satisfaction in creating environments where people (and animals) feel like they belong.
